이 작업은 3번째 개인전에 준비된 것으로 당시 천안 교도소에 복역중인 죄수들의 머리카락을 설치했다. 내가 선택한 머리카락은 우리의 사회적 생물학적 불안감을 자극하며, 이 느낌들이 사람들의 개념적, 실리적 공간으로 확대될 수 있으리라고 기대했다. 내가 제시한 것은 전혀 가공되지 않은 재료 자체일 뿐이지만, 내 작업은 이 재료들로부터 지각되어지는 다양한 개념화의 과정을 통해 우리의 관념으로 확장되어 의식되어지는 요소들을 만나고 싶었다.
This work was made for my third solo exhibition. The material I used for this installation was hair from prisoners in Chonan Prison. I hoped that it might stimulate people's social and biological restlessness and that such feelings might reach into the deep conceptual and psychological space of people's minds. What i presented was only the raw materials, but such images of my material create a space for extreme emotions and understanding about biological death and social death. Through various processes of conceptualizing my perceptions of the materials, I wanted to meet the elements which develop into different consciousnesses in our mind.
