Information Design Summer Academy:
  * Information Design Summer Academy: Travelling the City *       
    July 8th to July 27th 2002   (IIID University Project)


TASK:
Investigating, evaluating and re-designing conventional and digital information for visitors to a city like Vienna who move around on foot or by using public means of transport or taxi.
Special attention is paid to content enriching a city experience with regard to its history, presence and future.

DATES:
July 8th - July 27th 2002.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE:
Verbal, pictorial and possibly also sound communication must be optimized to make information meet user requirements. To involve the users and to make them partners in the communication process interaction is to be facilitated as well. The Summer Academy therefore expects participants to have qualifications in one or several of the following fields:
- visual and/or sound design;
- professional writing;
- computer sciences;
- cognitive psychology.

FACULTY:
- Prof. Robert O. Swinehart (Director), School of Design, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA
- Veronika Schreyer (Assistant), is design, Wien/Vienna.

VISITING EXPERTS:
- Stefan Nowak + Petra Knyrim, nowakteufelknyrim Duesseldorf, Germany (Winners of the Prime Minister's Prize 2001, Japan Design Foundation).
- Ass. Prof. Andreas Schneider, Institute for Advanced Media Art and Sciences, Gifu, Japan.
- Prof. Erik Spiekermann, Information designer and type designer, Berlin, London, San Francisco.
- Angela Winkler + Martin Foessleitner, High-Performance GmbH, Wien/Vienna.

VENUE:
Fashion Institute Vienna, Schloss Hetzendorf, Vienna.

ACCOMMODATION:
A number of rooms have been reserved at a student hostel at the "Gasometer" on a first come, first serve basis.

International Institute for Information Design in co-operation with the School of Design of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.

EUR 1095 (approx. USD 980). Scholarships covering up to 66% of the participation fee will be available for qualified students.
Admission requirements: a portfolio, a resume or vita and a short statement of intent (1/2) page.

Maximum number of participants: 20.

Registration closes on 31st May 2002.
